Veronica Tyler Christie otherwise known as “V” for short.
Veronica’s path blends together music, nonprofits, and meaningful community-building. As the bass trombonist for the 7th Street Big Band, she has played on four albums—including Post Hang—and performed at multiple festivals, including headlining the San Jose Jazz Festival in 2022 after four years as a regular performer. She also performed at the 2022 International Women’s Brass Conference with the Chromatic Brass Collective, joining over 50 women with shared lived experiences to debut the first women-of-color brass ensemble. This groundbreaking performance challenged the systemic barriers that have historically gatekept Black, Indigenous, and other women of color from thriving in symphonic and professional music spaces.
Outside of performing, Veronica taught with SJZ Progressions, reaching 200–400 students each week from underserved communities, and also supported a budding Young Musician’s Project at San Jose State University with a similar mission. Through her teaching, she not only nurtured a love for music, but also fostered collaboration, confidence, and personal growth and raising the incoming generation of creatives in community.
Veronica’s admin expertise spans music, education, events, and nonprofits. She excels in managing databases, branding, social media, project tracking, employee orientation, and labor compliance research. A key strength is her ability to anticipate and solve challenges before they arise, ensuring smooth operations. Veronica believes in modernizing practices to stay ahead of an ever-changing work environment, optimizing internal structures, improving communication, and identifying opportunities for growth in workplace culture.
Her commitment to inclusivity extends to the gaming nonprofit sectors. As Programming Division Head for MAGWest, she led efforts to diversify guest appearances and recruit volunteers from underrepresented backgrounds. This work earned her a spot on the MAGFest Inc. Board of Directors in 2022, and she was promoted to Board President in 2024. In this role, she facilitated board retreats, oversaw the selection of Executive Director Debra Lenik in 2023, and influenced strategic planning to foster an inclusive future for the organization.
Veronica also made her mark in the world of podcasting, using her voice to uplift, challenge, and celebrate. As the host of Lady Blerds Sing the Blues, she carved out space for inclusive conversations—exploring nerd culture, current events, and sexual health through the lens of Blerd women. She also brought stories to life on Don’t Cast n Drive, a vibrant show that spotlighted the diverse paths and creative journeys of artists from all walks of life.
Her podcasting work was deeply influenced by her experience conducting diversity advocacy panels and participating in thought-provoking conversations with All Podcasts Matter in the Bay Area. Independently, she’s invited a wide range of artists and intellectuals to share their wisdom in convention spaces—amplifying voices like Shubzilla, Twill Distilled, Kishonna Gray, Zoey Marshall, Cynthia Harrell, Danielle McRae, and Marcy Nabors, to name a few. Through every episode and panel, Veronica continues to champion representation, intersectionality, and the power of storytelling.
In 2023, Veronica joined Relovelution’s Millennial Managers Collective and participated in the Take the Lead: 50 Women Can Entrepreneurship Cohort. In 2024, she completed Relovelution’s Leadership Accelerator Program and has earned Executive Leadership Certificate with the People’s Nonprofit Accelerator, uplifting her skills in fostering diversity, equity, and justice in every space she enters.
Through her work, teaching, and artistry, Veronica remains dedicated to creating communities where authenticity is embraced, and those who need invitation can thrive without fear or barriers.
